CHIYOME SS15 TUNDRA
CHIYOME SS15 TUNDRA is an affirmation of raw simplicity. The collection results from sensitive observation of the natural rigidity or drape of unlined leather. Tab closures replace hardware completely. Our design inquiry was rooted in studying R.M. Schindler chairs, galvanized steel Noguchi sculptures and Gordon Matta- Clark’s deconstructed architecture works. In SS15 only the vital elements endure.

VALUESCHIYOME establishes a new standard by designing singular products through conscientious means.
CHIYOME is motivated by the challenge of determining balanced solutions. The studio's clean and minimalist perspective manifests through sharp lines, subtle color relationships and smart proportions. The brand continually explores alternative materials and methods of structuring, originating from the foundational question: what is essential? CHIYOME is committed to creating exceptional products through radical means that strengthen the social fabric of New York. The designs are heavily influenced by contemporary art, architecture and furniture.
Creative Director and CEO Anna Lynett Moss’s design and production experiences were honed on Project Runway and as an edition printer at Gemini G.E.L.. Anna graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Printmaking.
CHIYOME has firm aesthetic roots in the maternal Japanese ancestry of its designer, Anna Lynett Moss, who founded the studio in 2012. The name belonged to her great-grandmother and is the first of three generations of CHI names in her family: Chiyome, Chiyeko, Chiyo.
MADE IN NYC
CHIYOME products are proudly designed and manufactured in New York City. The company makes a distinct effort to source materials from minority- owned local businesses and maintain the heritage of leatherwork in NYC. The CHIYOME studio was founded at 5Pointz in Long Island City, NY.
Summer 2013 marks the launch of the studio’s innovative work program for at-risk women in NYC. CHIYOME actualizes a future of freedom and possibility for some of the city’s most under-served residents.
RACKED YOUNG GUNS CLASS OF 2014
Chiyome brilliantly collides ‘minimalism’ with ‘statement’— two characteristics rarely mentioned in the same breath. Beyond making bags that are graphically cool to look at, designer Anna Lynett Moss has expertly considered function- ality, working in two or more ways to carry each bag.
While the bags are hand-held works of art in their own right- -crafted from materials like onyx, rubber, marble, vinyl, and brass--they’re also products of Moss’s socio-ethical world view.
One of the most difficult kinds of chic to achieve is that Japa- nese-style minimalism that’s beautiful in its pure functionality. Anna’s insanely sleek, hard-working line totally nails it. She makes the anti-It bag--the everything, always bag.
Moss’ diverse approach has visibly generated interest and par- ticipation...Moss’ tutelage is more creative than competitive, but perhaps her caged wisdom can break through the same barriers.

How do I care for my CHIYOME bag?
If treated with care, your CHIYOME product will have a long life. LEATHER surfaces are raw and untreated unless otherwise noted and are sensitive to the elements; please treat periodically with a light coat of water-repellant shoe spray to prevent staining. Use care when treating lighter colored leathers and always test first on the bottom or interior.
MARBLE components are engineered with normal use in mind. Please use with care and avoid heavy impact against hard surfaces to prevent stress to the natural variations in the material.
WAXED CANVAS surfaces can be cleaned gently with a damp rag. For scuffs in the canvas wax layer, press minimally with an iron on the lowest setting. When heated, the wax layer will immediately even out and your scuff will disappear. Remember to clean your iron by pressing a few sheets of paper until no signs of wax remain.
Do you repair damages?
CHIYOME bags are designed and structured to reach archival quality in your collection. In the event that you wear your bag to the point that part needs to be repaired, we would be happy to advise the best method. Depending on the nature of the damage, we can work with you to repair the bag in our studio for a small fee. The satisfaction of our customers is of the highest importance to us so please raise any concerns you may have.
